LAUGHTER and camaraderie filled the air as residents of Rumah Charis, an old folk home in Pulau Betong, Balik Pulau, engaged in various fun-filled activities during the Chinese New Year celebration hosted by Lexis Suites Penang recently.

During the programme, residents and the Lexis Suites Penang team participated in engaging games, including a lively dancing competition, a challenging picture game, a fun balloon-blowing contest, invigorating exercises and more.

The festivities continued with a sumptuous Chinese lunch set, featuring a delectable array of dishes including crispy chicken with lemon sauce, steamed fish fillet with Nyonya sauce, Japanese tofu with minced meat and many others.

Lexis Suites Penang general manager Ben Ho Chang Peng said the programme is part of the hotel’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to give back to the community, especially to the less unfortunate.

Ho said the programme is part of the hotel’s CSR initiative to give back to the community, especially to the less unfortunate.

“We are truly grateful for the opportunity to bring joy and happiness to the residents of Rumah Charis through our Chinese New Year CSR event. It is a privilege to spend the day together, fostering connections and spreading positivity within our community.

“We organise this type of programme every year not just during the Chinese New Year but also during other festivities as well such as Deepavali, Hari Raya and Christmas. We focus more on organising programmes in the southwest district as our hotel is located in this district.

“After all, we just want to come here and cheer them up. We always want to contribute and give back to the community, especially to the less unfortunate through this kind of initiative,” he said.

The programme concluded with an ang pow (red packet) giveaway ceremony and grocery distribution.
