THE Chinese New Year vibe is in the air at Taman Areca, with vibrant lanterns and decorations brightening up the neighbourhood and creating a festive atmosphere.
State Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim invited families to visit the park and soak in its festive ambience.
“The CNY deco will be up here until the end of February.
“The Taman Areca, with its beautiful landscape, is a recreational park that we can be proud of”, Lim said during the CNY lighting-up ceremony at Taman Areca yesterday (Jan 6).
Lim also thanked Tan Eng Leong, the managing director of Theam Leong Electrical Engineering Sdn Bhd, for sponsoring the CNY decorations, as well as the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Penang Stadium Corporation Open Spaces (PSDKLPP) for their efforts in successfully setting up the festive displays.
Lim also announced that the next location for the CNY decorations would be Bandar Sri Pinang.
She shared and affirmed the tagline, ‘Our Kampung, Our Pride,’ with the residents.
Taman Areca boasts a community farm, a bicycle bridge with a designated pedestrian lane, and a jogging track that connects to Karpal Singh Drive.
Also present were Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, PSDKLPP executive director Rashidah Jalaludin, and MBPP councillors Nicholas Theng and Lee Wei Seang.
