LANTERNS and decorative lights at the Pulau Tikus neighbourhood have heightened the mood for the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.
The Chinese community will usher in the Year of the Rabbit when CNY falls on Jan 22 this year.
Village Community Management Council (MPKK) Midlands Berjaya chairman Rachel Tan said lanterns and decorative lights were put up at three locations, namely Jalan Burmah, opposite Pulau Tikus Starbucks and Pulau Tikus market.
“We’ve put up a total of 120 lanterns with 400 lights at Jalan Burmah, 60 lanterns with 60 lights opposite Pulau Tikus Starbucks, and 12 lanterns with 12 lights at the Pulau Tikus Market.
“The total cost for this lighting project is RM29,000,” Tan said during the lighting-up ceremony yesterday (Jan 17) at Jalan Burmah.
Meanwhile, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee said the Pulau Tikus neighbourhood will stay illuminated with decorative lights for other festivities as well.
“We will try to keep the lights here even after the CNY celebration and replace the lanterns with different decorations for other major celebrations.
“Another thing is, by lighting up the neighbourhood it will also help to highlight the businesses here,” Lee added.
Also present was Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid.
