THE Penang government remains steadfast in building a strong sports community that encourages young people to participate and adopt healthy lifestyles.

 

State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen emphasised this commitment during the opening ceremony of Penang FIBA 3×3 Challenger at Queensbay Mall today.

 

“Penang has always been a hub for sports and cultural events. The FIBA 3X3 Challenger event is in line with our Penang2030 vision, which focuses on improving quality of life through sports, wellness, and community unity.

“Hosting international events like this not only gives local athletes a chance to compete internationally but also inspires the youth to pursue their passion for sports.

 

“Sports event like this also provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills on international stage,” said Gooi in his speech.

 

Also present were Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan Hooi Peng and Batu Uban assemblyman Kumaresan Arumugam.

 

Gooi also called upon the private sector and businesses to show their support for basketball and the development of sports in the community.

 

He emphasised that their involvement could make a significant difference in providing opportunities for athletes to excel and promoting a healthy lifestyle among our youth.

 

He encouraged interested parties to contact his office or the Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) to explore collaboration opportunities.

 

He stressed that, together, they could create a vibrant sports culture and contribute to the well-being of society.

 

Speaking about the programme, Gooi said the Penang FIBA 3×3 Challenger marks an exciting milestone for basketball enthusiasts and the sports community in Penang.

 

“We are thrilled to host such a prestigious event, which not only showcases high-level competition but also promotes the spirit of sportsmanship and community engagement,” he said.
