RESIDENTS in the Teluk Ipil area in Jawi will soon have their very own multipurpose hall and futsal court in the neighbourhood.

Caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow lauded the initiative undertaken by former Jawi assemblyman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye to construct the multipurpose hall and futsal court.

Chow also thanked GSD Land (M) Sdn Bhd for helping to build the multipurpose hall and futsal court under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative with an estimated cost of RM800,000.

“Penang has been adopting ‘Public Private Partnerships’ in its initiatives.

“Public Private Partnerships provide opportunities for the private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other partners to work together with the state government.

“Through such partnerships, the state government acts as a facilitator to ensure the projects benefit the community,” Chow said during his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Jawi Multipurpose Hall and Futsal Court today.

Chow said that, in recent years, the Penang government received many requests to build sheltered courts.

“For the Jawi constituency, we are also waiting for the completion of the Nibong Tebal Arena which includes nine badminton courts.

“The place can be also used as a multipurpose hall to organise various functions or meetings,” Chow said.

Meanwhile, H’ng said the construction of a multipurpose hall and futsal court in the Teluk Ipil area would benefit the local community, especially the youths.

“The facility can help to produce mentally and physically fit youths,” he said. He also commended the Teluk Ipil Bay FC which was established by the youths in the neighbourhood.

H’ng thanked the south Seberang Perai district office and Chow for approving the project.

“I would like to also thank GSD Land (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Khor Chong Hai for being willing to help to build the multipurpose hall and futsal court under the CSR programme,” he added.

South Seberang Perai assistant district officer Mohd Balkish Othman hoped that the youths would fully utilise the futsal court once it has been built.
