DUBBED as the first of its kind in the country, a community-driven app is officially launched here in Penang today.
Known as MinitAgo, it is an innovative and community-driven digital platform designed to transform the way people engage with their surroundings, connect with local businesses, and contribute to their communities.
MinitAgo was founded by Liou Hung Woei, an experienced architect, and Eddy Eau as the app’s chief executive officer.
Their passion for enhancing the way people connect with their surroundings and express appreciation led to the creation of MinitAgo.
MinitAgo is now available for download on the Google Playstore App and Apple Store.
Liou said MinitAgo serves as a real-time mapping application that empowers users to discover and share ongoing events and gems in their area, fostering community engagement and providing businesses with valuable insights into local trends and preferences.
“My background in architecture, spanning over two decades, has instilled in me a deep appreciation for design, innovation, and the power of transforming spaces.
“This experience led me to ponder how we might redesign the digital landscape to foster greater connection and community engagement.
“The challenge of discovering what’s good, what’s trending, and what’s happening often proved troublesome and time-consuming. It was this very challenge that motivated me to explore a better solution.
“And thus, MinitAgo was conceived- a platform that reimagines ‘likes,’ one that maps ongoing happenings in real time, connects businesses and users, and transforms ‘likes’ into tangible value.
“And today, we pioneer this unique concept, the first of its kind in Malaysia, right here in Penang,” Liou said in his speech before Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the unique app at the Coex creative hub in George Town today.
Also present were Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, Digital Penang chief executive officer Ng Kwang Ming and Malaysian Association of Hotels vice-president Datuk Khoo Boo Lim.
According to Eau, he purposely selected Penang as the official launch location for the MinitAgo app.
“This strategic choice ensures that we receive unparalleled support from the state government, capitalise on Penang’s robust economic environment, and actively contribute to the local social economy,” he said.
Eau added that MinitAgo is currently estimated to be valued at RM1.75 million.
“And we aim to expand it nationwide by mid-2024 as well as ongoing negotiations to eventually expand to Singapore by the end of that year,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chow said MinitAgo stands as a testament to the inventive spirit that thrives within the state.
“This picture-mapping platform takes the ubiquitous ‘LIKE’ and transcends it, transforming it into tangible value. But, its significance extends far beyond the digital realm; it resonates deeply with our local community.
“From my understanding of the app, MinitAgo places the heart of our community at its core.
“By mapping ongoing happenings in real-time, it serves as a digital chronicle of the moments, experiences, and gems that make Penang so special.
“It is a platform that empowers every Penangite to not only appreciate these gems but also contribute to our collective narrative.
“It connects businesses and individuals, fostering a sustainable ecosystem where local entrepreneurs can thrive,” said Chow.
According to Chow, MinitAgo is not just an app, it is a vision, a commitment, and a bridge to a brighter future for Penang.
“It empowers our community, embraces the digital age, attracts global investment, and bolsters our aspirations for a smart city under the auspices of the Penang2030 vision.
“It reminds us that innovation and progress are not distant dreams but living realities that we, as a community, can shape and celebrate together.
“Together, let us embark on this exciting journey, as we map our moments, celebrate our gems, and build a brighter, happier, and more prosperous future for Penang,” he concluded.
