Community engagement continues

PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow continues the second edition of his walkabout, also known as the ‘Jelajah ❤️ Penang 2.0’, to hear the people first-hand.

Chow, who is also the Batu Kawan MP, thanked the voters of Batu Kawan for choosing him as their MP.

“I did not have the chance to visit every area in Batu Kawan during the 15th General Election (GE15) campaign period.

“We did our best to engage as many people as possible and understand their needs.

“These community engagement sessions are good for me and my team to know the issues faced by the community directly. Hence, now I am continuing the jelajah, especially to areas I did not manage to visit before the GE15,” he said in his speech after visiting Taman Mutiara Cempaka today.

Chow said traffic congestion was the ‘number one’ issue faced by the people of Batu Kawan.

“After many meetings and engagement sessions, I understand that traffic congestion is the ‘number one’ issue faced by the people here.

“Traffic issues, including other matters, have been highlighted to us (Penang government) and we are doing our best to address them,” he assured the people.

Chow and his team then visited Taman Murai Jaya. Also present was Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik.

Chow and Goh distributed mandarin oranges to those they met during the jelajah.

Goh said Chow, being the Batu Kawan MP, was trying his best to reach out to as many people as possible through his engagement sessions.

“Batu Kawan is a very big parliamentary constituency. The chief minister has decided to have programmes in Bukit Tambun, Batu Kawan, today. I believe he has about seven or eight programmes here,” Goh said.

Goh also welcomed Batu Kawan folk to visit the Batu Kawan MP Chinese New Year open house.

“The open house is scheduled to be held from noon to 2pm on Jan 28 (Saturday) at Iconic Point,” he added.

The last stop of the day was at the Taman Tangling night market, where Chow received a warm welcome from the visitors as well as the traders.

Some of them also took the opportunity to take pictures with Chow while he was distributing the mandarin oranges.
