THE much-awaited event, the ‘Women Impact Makers Conference 2022’ (WIMC 2022) has been successfully launched today at the Hotel Royale Chulan.
The eight-day long conference is jointly organised by the Penang Women Development Corporation (PWDC) and Elizabeth Image Branding.
State executive councillor for Non-Islamic Religious Affairs and Social Development Chong Eng said it would offer various inspirational talks and networking opportunities for women from all walks of life.
“This conference has gathered more than 80 speakers (local and international) and key industry experts for a compact and empowering sharing session.
“A total of 130 people have registered for the programme and I believe they will be able to learn from the experts here.
“I am looking forward to our keynote speaker for today, Prof Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Hapsah, who will be sharing her thoughts on ‘Women Breaking Boundaries’.
“She (Dr Sharifah Hapsah) became the first female vice-chancellor for Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and it is indeed an honour for us to have her at our conference today,” Chong said after officiating the conference.
Chong Eng said the state government has supported WIMC 2022 with a contribution of RM80,000 through her office.
“I am proud to see that nine months of tedious planning were worth every cent, and most importantly, it has exceeded my expectation.
“The idea of having this conference came about when I was in Iceland back in 2019 to attend the annual ‘Reykjavik Global Forum’ organised by Women Political Leaders Association and the Iceland government.
“I was inspired and since then I was determined and even pledged at the global forum to have a similar conference, an international summit in Penang.
“So, here I would like to congratulate Elizabeth Image Branding, PWDC and all those who have made this conference happen,” she added.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Image Branding chief executive officer Elizabeth Hor lauded the state government for being proactive concerning women empowerment initiatives.
“We need a government that is not just talkers but doers and givers.
“I want to thank YB Chong Eng for walking the talk.
“We need more leaders like her as she is continuously looking out to develop leaders as well as create opportunities for women in Penang.
Also joining the launching ceremony were PWDC chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng and Datuk Rohana Weiler, who is a member of PWDC’s board of directors.
