FOLLOWING the hot weather during the Lunar New Year period, Penang is now experiencing cooler temperatures, with thunderstorms expected daily over the next week.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department’s official forecast, Penang will see thunderstorms daily from Feb 25 to March 2, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 32°C.
As for dam water levels, the effective capacities at press time stand at 91.3% for Mengkuang Dam, 65.2% for Air Itam Dam and 56.6% for Teluk Bahang Dam.
Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan, citing international meteorological reports, stated that the first half of 2025 may experience a neutral El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) or a mild La Niña phenomenon, potentially bringing cooler and wetter conditions.
Since then, PBAPP has implemented dry-weather water supply management measures beginning mid-November 2024 to ensure a sufficient water supply for Penang.
The corporation continues to remind consumers that despite the recent rainfall, water conservation remains crucial.
PBAPP urges water consumers to use water wisely and adopt conservation practices.
