Cooperation between state govt and IEM Penang branch vital to fostering innovation and progress

THE collaboration between the state government and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Penang branch is key to fostering innovation and advancing the state’s development, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

 

Speaking at the IEM Penang branch 57th-anniversary dinner at Butterworth Arena this evening, Chow explained the state government’s commitment to deepening this partnership by focusing on critical areas such as sustainable urban planning, water resource management and resilient infrastructure development.

 

“These initiatives will ensure that Penang remains globally competitive while safeguarding our environment and enhancing the quality of life for future generations.

 

“After all, the role of engineers will become even more critical as we confront emerging challenges and seize new opportunities on the horizon.

 

“Thus, we look forward to strengthening the partnership between the IEM Penang branch and the state government as we collectively chart a path towards a more prosperous and resilient future for our state,” said Chow in his speech.

 

Chow also expressed his gratitude to the engineers who have shaped Penang’s past, enriched its present, and are actively building its future.

He said that their work transcends the realms of infrastructure and technology, touching the very heart of the community by improving the lives of every Penangite.

 

Also present were Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, IEM Malaysia president Prof Dr Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin and IEM Penang branch chairman Chan Wah Cheong.

Meanwhile, Chan introduced this year’s IEM Penang branch theme, ‘The Past, Present, and Future Penang’.

 

“This theme encapsulates our collective commitment to celebrating our achievements while embracing the opportunities and challenges that shape our evolving landscape.

 

“Last year’s theme, ‘Regenerative Talent’, underscored the necessity of continuously evolving our skills to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world.

 

“This year, we extend our focus to honour historical milestones, appreciate current advancements, and prepare for an innovative future,” he said.

 

Chan also expressed his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the association members and industry stakeholders for their unwavering support over the years.

 

“Together, we will continue to build on our legacy and drive Penang towards a future of unparalleled success and innovation.

 

“Here’s to celebrating our past, embracing our present, and forging a bright future for Penang,” said Chan.
