CLOUD seeding activities are currently being conducted to induce rain at the water catchment areas.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the cloud seeding was important to ensure that the water reserves could last until the rainy season, in March or April.
“We are expecting more rain in March or April.
“We had expected our dams to be full during the wet season in November and December last year. However, that did not happen as there was not much rain at the water catchment areas during that period.
“We ushered in the new year with lesser water in our dams,” Chow told a press conference at Seameo Recsam, Jelutong, today.
Chow said the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) would have to play its role in ensuring continuous water supply to the consumers without the need to exercise water rationing.
“We also need the consumers to play their role in conserving water during this dry season,” he said.
