Cultural exchange celebrated at Le French Festival 2024

FRENCH popular singer and actress Marie-Suzanne Lacroix, fondly known as Marsu, enthralled audiences with her dynamic stage presence and innovative musical style at Gurney Plaza.

 

She was accompanied by her musicians, Alexandre Deschamps and Xavier Pourcher.

 

During the concert, Marsu and her musicians revisited French classical songs and performed extracts from the famous French show ‘Les Franglaises’.

The concert was part of the Le French Festival 2024, organised by the French Alliance of Kuala Lumpur, which is currently ongoing in major cities across the country.

 

Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai attended the concert last night (June 21).

 

Wong said Penang has always been a melting pot of cultures, and the concert exemplifies the state’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange and appreciation.

He mentioned that music has the power to transcend borders, and events like these allow people to connect deeply with diverse traditions and expressions.

 

“We are honoured to host Marsu tonight (June 21). As we know, she is not only a talented vocalist and musician but also an award-winning actress with a rich background in dramatic and musical theatre in Paris.

 

“Tonight’s concert is proudly presented by the Alliance Française de Penang as part of the Le French Festival 2024.

 

“Now in its 22nd edition, this annual festival celebrates the rich connections between French and Malaysian cultures across various domains, including cinema, sports, theatre, photography, history, and of course, music.

 

“It highlights the profound ways in which culture and the arts can unite us all.

 

“Penang, a historical crossroads of diverse cultures and nations, serves as the ideal venue for this cultural convergence and warmly welcomes enthusiasts from around the world,” Wong said in his speech.

 

Also present were Alliance Française de Penang vice-president Joel Lim Du Bois, Alliance Française de Penang patron Datuk Tengku Idaura Tengku Ibrahim, and Belgium honorary consul in Penang Michel van Crombrugge.

 

Wong also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Alliance Française de Penang for their continuous efforts in promoting cultural ties in the state.

 

“Your dedication enriches our cultural landscape and brings global artistic talents to our shores.

 

“To Marsu, Xavier, and Alexandre, thank you for sharing your incredible talents with us. Your music and passion resonate deeply with audiences, and we are thrilled to have you here in Penang,” said Wong.
