THE two-day Penang International Dance Competition 2024, starting today, serves as a platform for the participants to showcase not only their talents but also express cultural values, says state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai.
Wong commended the development of art and culture, emphasising its role in fostering harmony within society.
“We can witness brilliant performances from the dancers from all races and religions, promoting the beauty of the dance, and fostering cultural exchange among participants.
“This, in turn, showcases the harmonious living environment that people experienced in the country,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony of the event at Dewan Sri Pinang.
The competition, scheduled for today and tomorrow, offers a platform for cultural appreciation and celebration.
The winner of the competition stands to receive a prize of RM5,000.
Looking ahead, Wong envisions the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC) becoming the largest convention centre, spanning over 330,000 square feet upon completion.
“The convention centre will accommodate the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry activities.
“Various cultural shows can take place there once the centre is set up,” added Wong.
Also, present was Penang International Dance Competition 2024 chairman Lim Wui Teck.
