THE Penang DAP (Democratic Action Party) will continue its quest to achieve its vision of making Malaysia a developed country, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
“We want to make sure that Malaysia is a country that respects and advocates the principles of democracy and human rights,” Chow said in his speech at the Penang DAP Chinese New Year open house in Sungai Pinang.
Chow affirmed on the need to take care of the well-being of the people as well as to give priority to realise the development agenda.
“In these 54 years, DAP has played a positive role with regard to the development of Penang, whether it was in the Opposition or is now with the Government.
“The difficult times that we faced when we were in the Opposition have strengthened the party’s spirit and in 2018, with the support received from Penangites, we took over the Government.
“The strong support received from the people of Penang is certainly an important factor for us to remain as the government for the third term.
“I would like to remind my fellow comrades here to bear in mind our responsibilities to ensure that our people’s rights pertaining to religion, culture, and language will be protected and developed,” said Chow, who is also the Penang DAP chairman.
PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who made his presence at the function, said that the ‘rakyat’ must stay united to fight against racism.
“It is high time for the rakyat to say enough to racism and stand together as one great Malaysia.
“We (Pakatan Harapan) will make sure that we do not betray the trust that the people have placed on us,” said Anwar.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was also present, said Penang has been approved of investment worth RM1.3 billion.
Also present were veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang, state executive councillors and assemblymen.
