HER dream was simple when she joined the Penang political scene in 2012.
She wanted to ensure the state remained under a good administration.
Fast forward 11 years later, Connie Tan Hooi Peng, 33, is contesting the Seri Delima seat.
Earlier today, Penang Pakatan Harapan chairman Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the state’s caretaker Chief Minister, launched Tan’s election operation centre at Taman Island Glades in Greenlane.
Tan said DAP is a party that always introduces young people to contest in elections.
“DAP creates platforms for young people to shine. The party also gives equal opportunities to women.
“This constituency was once served by DAP leaders – R.S.N. Rayer and Syerleena Abdul Rashid – and both now are serving as MPs for Jelutong and Bukit Bendera respectively.
“If I win, I vow to continue with the good work of the past Seri Delima assemblymen and serve the people of Seri Delima,” Tan said during her speech.
There are about 31,573 constituents in Seri Delima.
Out of that number, women make up 53% while men 47%.
Meanwhile, Chow said Tan had formed a team of strong individuals who would help her highlight the state’s achievements to the people during the election campaign period.
On another matter, Chow said there were less or no signs of activities by Perikatan Nasional in several constituencies across the state.
“Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) have been campaigning in full force for the fifth day.
“Yesterday, PH and BN jointly launched the Penang Unity Manifesto 2023 for the state election.
“We are waiting for the Opposition coalition to criticise the manifesto, but there is nothing from them so far.
“It looks like they have nothing to say about our manifesto,” Chow said.
Chow said the formation of the Federal Government was through friendship, unifying PH and BN.
“It is time to do the same at the state level,” Chow said.
Also present were national DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer, Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid, Sungai Pinang candidate Lim Siew Khim, Batu Lancang candidate Ong Ah Teong, Air Itam candidate Joseph Ng, and Paya Terubong candidate Wong Hon Wai.
