THE Dataran Pemuda Merdeka in Butterworth is now brighter and livelier with the installation of new lights in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival.
This area has always been the focus for casual recreational use for Butterworth residents.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who launched the light installation project at Dataran Pemuda Merdeka recently, has congratulated Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) on their effort.
According to Lim, effort such this was one of the best measures carried out by MPSP after succeeding to attain city status from the Cabinet in May.
“Public facilities such as recreational parks, public halls, markets and cycling tracks should be improved. These are the challenges of upgrading the status from ‘municipal council’ to a ‘city council’.
“Not forgetting, we should also maintain cleanliness in an effort to make Penang a green and healthy state,” said Lim during his speech at Dataran Pemuda Merdeka hall on June 1.
Commenting further, MPSP president Datuk Rozali Mohamud explained that the project cost a total of RM330,000.
“YB Lim, who is also Bagan MP has contributed RM270,000 (own allocation) while MPSP provided RM60,000.
“The construction work of the lighting project was completed in 39 days from April 23 to May 31.
“Today, we can see the completion of the lighting project in the entire park that will benefit the users.
“I believe that the installation of this decorative lights will enhance the beauty of the surrounding areas,” added Rozali.
Aside from the installation of new lights, benches, a ‘Bagan’ signage, 18 units of concrete decorative poles and ‘boat-like’ shades were also put up.
All the facilities seem to add to the air of festivity and increase the value of Butterworth town.
