Day of exploration for young ‘pharmacists’ in training

WEARING their pristine medical laboratory coats with enthusiasm, approximately 40 young participants eagerly assumed the role of pharmacists, delving into the daily responsibilities that define the essence of this profession.

The children, aged five to 12, were guided by experienced pharmacists during the three-hour programme.

The programme, entitled ‘My Little Pharmacist 2023’, was jointly organised by the Malaysian Pharmacists Society Penang, Malaysian Pharmacists Society-Young Pharmacists Chapter (MPS-YPC), Island Hospital, Yay I Can Speak Too, AI Talent Sdn Bhd, and MY Hand on Box.

It was also supported by Kiwanis Penang Centre and Oaktree Care Centre.

Organising chairman Brian Tan said the event was aimed at fostering healthcare awareness among the children.

“We hope to inspire the next generation and ignite interest and curiosity in our children.

“Being a pharmacist is not just a professional in a lab coat, but a real hero who greatly contributes to the society’s well-being.

Tan added that the programme also included children with special needs and orphans to promote inclusivity for all children.

Among the activities held were interactive workshops, role-play sessions, storytelling-sessions, and community bonding sessions.
