FOR the first time, 650 lanterns were installed along one of Penang’s major and busiest roads, Jalan Masjid Negeri, in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan Hooi Peng mentioned that the installed lanterns add a vibrant atmosphere to Jalan Masjid Negeri, a stretch frequently used by many to access various parts of George Town.

“As we all know, this road, besides serving common road users, is also frequented by higher authorities such as ministers and government officials.

“I understand that this is the first time it has been done in the Seri Delima state constituency, and I hope we can continue to do so for all the upcoming festivals in the year 2024,” Tan said during the lantern lighting-up ceremony at Jalan Masjid Negeri today.

It is learned that DS Asia Group, a property management company based in Gelugor, sponsored the lanterns.

Tan expressed gratitude to the group for sponsoring the 650 lanterns, which amounted to RM50,000.

Also present earlier were Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, and Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.
