PENANG Island City Council (MBPP) Councillors had a Deepavali surprise for their staff at MBPP as 1,200 sacks of rice were distributed on Nov 5 in the MBPP Building, Esplanade.
“This is a special initiative by the MBPP councillors to reduce the staff’s burden and also to show appreciation for their hard work. We hope that this small token of appreciation will be able to lighten the burden for all, especially Indians, to celebrate Deepavali,” said MBPP councillor Ong Ah Teong during a short press conference.
This is a yearly tradition for MBPP and this marks its fifth year.
Also present on that day to help distribute the sacks of rice were MBPP councillors Joseph Ng and Lim Boon Beng.
One thousand sacks of rice were allocated for the staff from Urban Services (JPP), 100 for the enforcement officers and 100 for the staff in the Licensing Department.
Gopal Krishnan who has been with JPP for the past 27 years said he was very happy to have received this little surprise before Deepavali and that the current state government is doing a better job of taking care of its staff.
