TECH Dome Penang today hosted an exhibition from Kaohsiung, Taiwan which is a result of its continuous collaboration with the National Science and Technology Museum in Taiwan starting with the Inventions Exhibition last year.
Chief Executive Officer of Tech Dome Penang (TDP) Dr Khong Yoon Loong
said the exhibition is one of the important role of TDP to address public issues which affect society and science while at the same time promoting science and technology.
The Disease Prevention Combat Camp Exhibition is held from Sept 1 to Dec 31, 2018, with a symposium which begins today.
Khong said two major concerns of the original Disease Prevention Combat Camp Exhibition was brought to the exhibition in Penang, which are dengue fever and influenza.
“The reason for this is because both of these diseases are very common in Taiwan and Malaysia,” he noted in his speech at the launch of the exhibition.
The exhibition uses simple graphics and texts to introduce the cause, transmission methods, symptoms and prevention measures of infectious diseases.
“It will inspire visitors to know more about infectious diseases through the interesting and challenging interactive games.
“With the newfound knowledge, they can apply it in their daily lives and help reduce the threat of infectious disease,” Khong stressed.
Meanwhile, Ramasamy said Penang is now at the forefront of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
He added that application of science and technology is very important for the advancement of the state.
“It is very crucial too that Tech Dome is constantly moving in upgrading STEM,” he commented.
Ramasamy hope the friendship between Penang and Taiwan will continue for both parties to achieve their common goal in technology advancement.
Visitors can use a Hero Card (received upon entry at the exhibition) for the whole exhibition period to engage in missions like: 1) Crime Scene, 2)
House of Aedes Mosquitoes, 3) The Immunisation Speedster and 4) Disease Prevention Battle Stage.
To encourage visitors to visit this meaningful Disease Prevention Combat Camp Exhibition, members of the public have to purchase a Tech Dome Penang standard entrance ticket with no additional charge.
Also present at the launch of the exhibition were director-general of the National Science and Technology Museum in Taiwan Shiunn-Shyang Chen, Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy and assemblyman for Pulau Tikus Chris Lee Chun Kit, who is also a board member of TDP.
