GAMING can now be developed into a profession for the youths, according to SEGi Group of Colleges (Student & Corporate Services) senior manager Edward Low Rong Quan.
In an exclusive sharing with Buletin Mutiara recently, he pointed out that Penang is now considered to be one of the main esport hubs in the northern region of the country.
He complimented the state government for actively promoting esports through various state agencies.
“The esports future is bright and is something different for the youths. We need to inculcate this perception among the public that gaming sports is now on the rise.
“I understand that many parents may hold different views about gaming sports, but I feel the trend is now changing.
“Many tournaments have been held here in Penang to encourage those youths keen on e-sports to participate.
“The game helps to enhance a youth’s mindset as well as shape the personality of the person.
“Overall, gaming is now a business model to be developed,” he said.
Also participating in the virtual session were Youth ESports Challenge 2021 champions Dylan Chew, Lee Han Siang, Eugene Teng, Vincent Ooi and Lim Chee Hong.
According to Chew, they had been training consistently for the competition, which was open to youths aged from 16 to 35.
“We met each other when playing games through the online platform in February this year.
“We have since formed a group among ourselves and subsequently emerged as champions in the challenge.
“We will continue to train hard to improve ourselves,” he said.
The Youth Esports Challenge 2021 was organised by the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) in collaboration with SEGi Group of Colleges alongside Magnus Games Studios, Realme Malaysia, Ticket2U, OYU Fish Skin and ILLEGEAR Sdn Bhd.
PYDC deputy general manager Ng Hooi Ting concurred with Low, saying that the esports platform was on the trend now.
She said this would create a platform for the youths to unleash their potential in this gaming aspect.
“Penang nurtures its talents in this esports and I believe it will be developed in years to come,” she added.
