ART enthusiasts have a treat in store at the Penang State Art Gallery, where the ‘Dialogue of Aesthetic’ art exhibition is now open to the public from Nov 9 to 24.
This special showcase brings together 12 talented Thai artists, featuring approximately 60 unique pieces that span a diverse range of ideas, techniques, and perspectives, creating a vibrant dialogue that explores the themes of beauty and truth.
The exhibition highlights the works of Chairat Sangthong, Jaruwan Mueangkhwa, Man Chaima, Manee Meemak, Muhammad Rojana-Udomsat, Natsuree Techawiriyataweesin, Pornchai Chaima, Rapeepat Phonrattanapaiboon, Somsak Raksuwan, Thammanoon Ruengsawat, Thanistha Nunthapojn, and Wanda Chaima.
Each artist brings their unique vision to the exhibition, collectively forming a rich tapestry of Thai contemporary art.
Speaking at the opening ceremony yesterday (Nov 9), Thai deputy consul-general in Penang Suratchaya Palawongse emphasised the transformative power of art.
“Art not only uplifts the human spirit and creates aesthetic beauty, but it also serves as a universal language that connects people from different backgrounds and cultures.
“This exhibition not only expresses the ideas of these talented artists but also showcases the virtuous customs and rich culture of Thailand.
“After all, art serves as a powerful diplomatic tool, promoting international relations and fostering a deeper understanding of Thai culture,” she said.
Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, who officiated the opening, spoke of the deep historical and cultural ties between Penang and Thailand.
“Penang and Thailand have shared centuries of connections, reflected in local roads like Khaw Sim Bee Road, Bangkok Lane, and Siam Road, which stand as symbols of our enduring relationship.
“This exhibition is a testament to the creativity and skill of the 12 Thai artists, offering a journey into their imagination and artistic exploration,”he noted.
Wong further highlighted how Penangites have long enjoyed close ties with Thailand, with popular destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Phuket, and Hat Yai holding a special place in their hearts.
“Art speaks beyond words, and this exhibition serves as a bridge, strengthening our appreciation of each other’s heritage,” he added.
Wong also encouraged the public to embrace this unique exhibition, noting the efforts behind organising such a remarkable gathering of talent.
“Bringing together 12 artists from Thailand is no small feat. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to curator Muhammad Rojana-Udomsat and all the artists for their dedication and hard work,” he said.
The ‘Dialogue of Aesthetic’ exhibition not only celebrates the artistic talents of Thai creators but also serves as a testament to the enduring friendship and cultural exchange between Thailand and Penang. Art lovers, especially those in Penang, are invited to experience this enriching artistic journey.
Also present during the opening ceremony were Penang Museum and Art Gallery director Haryany Mohamad, Penang State Art Gallery chairman Lee Khai, Penang State Art Gallery committee member Dr Sarena Abdullah and Dialogue of Aesthetic exhibition curator Rojana-Udomsat.
