TO empower senior citizens with digital literacy, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) organised a digital literacy workshop.
The one-day workshop was held at the Penang Digital Library in Jalan Masjid Negeri today.
MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said a total of 80 senior citizens attended the workshop.
He mentioned the objective of this programme is to bridge the digital divide and improve digital literacy among senior citizens.
“We want to help them in their daily lives by enhancing their knowledge of digital literacy.
“We understand that digital literacy is not just a skill but a fundamental necessity in the 21st century.
“Thus, we need to ensure that these senior citizens will not be left out and have the opportunity to embrace the digital age.
“Through this workshop, we provide our seniors with opportunities to connect with the digital world,” Rajendran said in his speech before Penang Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye officiated the workshop today.
Also present was MBPP secretary Cheong Chee Hong.
H’ng commended MBPP for organising this beneficial programme.
“I was also informed that participants in this workshop will learn more about how to utilise the MBPP app’s Pearl-One Touch using a smartphone and also how to avoid digital scams in this modern age.
“Thus, I hope this workshop will improve our seniors’ digital skills and equip them with the necessary knowledge in this digital era,” he said.
