IN a recent meet-up, Penang Agrotechnology, Food Security and Cooperative Development Committee chairman Fahmi Zainol called on the Penang agriculture players to embrace digitalisation.
Fahmi has said that the future of agriculture lies in digitalisation.
“Industry players should not be afraid in this new age of digitalisation as it serves to be beneficial to all.
“Aspects of licensing and standard operating procedures (SOPs) would be digitalised to ease monitorisation from the state government and then to the ministry.
“This is incremental to prevent constant misalignment of governmental agriculture policies among agriculture players.
“Furthermore, this would supersede all sectors of agriculture such as farming, breeding of livestock, fishery etc.
“Aside from that, these efforts would pave the way for the advancement of agrotechnology,” he said when interviewed in Komtar today.
Fahmi paid a courtesy visit to the Penang Information Division this morning and was welcomed by the division’s Communications Director Yap Lee Ying.
He said digitalised agriculture systems would make farming for that matter easier.
“Massive quantities of harvest and livestock would be easily available for wholesalers to purchase with the introduction of a digitalised marketplace.
“As a result, this would increase sales of agriculture output in Penang,” he added.
Penang is very much synonymous with Electrical, Engineering, Manufacturing and Equipment.
Fahmi noted that the young generation in Penang is often keener on joining the manufacturing and engineering industries.
To inculcate an interest in agriculture among youth, Fahmi added that his tenure would be introducing school and community-based farming according to targeted areas that have been set by his officers.
Also, these initiatives will be complemented with other initiatives such as smart farming, hydroponic farming, and vertical farming.
