DIGITALISATION and technology have become integral aspects of today’s economy, says Penang Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee.

He said the state has the talent to develop the economy through digitalisation efforts.

“We view seriously the need to equip the youths with the relevant vocational skills, which include computer coding and artificial intelligence (AI).

“I have always emphasised that the youths are our future and we need to equip them with the digitalisation knowledge,” he said in his speech during the online session of the 2023 National Business Website Creation Competition.

Soon said that the state, through the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), has taken proactive steps by introducing various initiatives.

“We want to assist the youth in preparing themselves for the era of IR 4.0. The initiatives undertaken include a series of webinars, training courses, as well as competitions.

The competition was organised by the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) in collaboration with Batu Lancang Vocational College (KVBL) and Colla Team.

It was attended by 379 participants from vocational colleges throughout the country.

Soon said youths from 38 vocational colleges were invited to compete in the event.

“It is a great platform for them to exchange ideas related to digitalisation knowledge,” he added.

PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said they have mobilised various projects and programmes with various parties to empower youths in terms of digital skills.

“We have organised a series of webinars to guide the participants to become website entrepreneurs in collaboration with the Colla Team,” she said.
