IN order to celebrate the significance of senior citizens, the ‘Elders Day’ is observed on Oct 1 ever year.
In conjunction with this, the Society of Active Generation of Elders (SAGE) will be holding a dinner and dance next month.
“This is the tenth consecutive year whereby the state government is joining hands with SAGE to organise the celebration.
“To mark the occasion, a dinner and dance will be held at the Shang Wu Primary School Hall (Jalan La Salle) on Oct 11 starting from 7 pm.
“A comprehensive programme has been drawn up for the celebration which includes line dancing and social dancing with the accompaniment of a band,’’ SAGE president Chin Sek Ham told a press conference today.
According to Chin, each participant will be receiving a door gift besides getting a chance to win some lucky draw prizes or table draw prizes.
The function is open to both SAGE members and also the senior citizens in the state on a first-come first-served basis.
“So, far we have already sold 90 over tables which means 900 attendees have confirmed participation.
“Those who are 80 years old and above will be receiving “ang pau’ and this year we have 65 senior citizens registered to attend the dinner.
“They are not only 80 years old and above but are also fit to join the event and some will be also seen dancing at the function,” Chin added.
State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, who was also present, said SAGE, which is an active organisation, comprised members who once served the public and the government.
Tickets priced at RM35 per person are available from SAGE at Kompleks Masyarakat Penyayang located at Jalan Utama.
