UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College vice chancellor Prof Dr Chong Beng Keok stated that the festival aims to carry out charitable activities while celebrating the diverse cultures and talents that make the community so rich and dynamic.
“This is a platform to give students opportunities to develop their talents, instil in them cultural values, strengthen their teamwork spirit, and motivate them to become more creative, innovative, and competitive.
“Today, 11 competitions and a number of exciting activities will be held to help achieve these goals,” she said in her speech.
Dr Chong also announced the launch of a cookbook titled ‘Recipe Lab Diaries’, co-authored by three staff members of UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College. She then invited visitors to sample a special culinary delight at the festival: the Technicolour Fish Fingers, NutriLele.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai stressed the importance of festivals like the Technicolour Multicultural Festival in showcasing Penang’s rich heritage and fostering community spirit.
“They provide a platform for cultural exchange, understanding, and unity, which are the cornerstones of a thriving, inclusive society,” he stated.
He also highlighted that many of the cultural performance competitions at the Technicolour Multicultural Festival 2024 were open to primary and secondary school students.
“This is crucial for discovering Penang’s potential artistic talents and fostering a love for artistic performances among children and young people from an early age.
“Through these competitions, we are not only providing a platform for the younger generation to showcase their talents but also inspiring their love and pursuit of the arts, cultivating more future stars in the artistic field,” Wong remarked in his speech.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow emphasised that ‘unity in diversity’ is more than just a saying.
“It is a lived experience in our state, and this festival is a testament to that beautiful principle.
“This event also celebrates our collective commitment to making a positive impact on the community.
“Today, as we gather amidst the vibrant hues of technology, culture, and creativity, we do so with the noble intention of supporting the less fortunate and underprivileged.
“It brings me great joy to note that the proceeds from this event will be directed towards charitable causes,” he said.
Chow also highlighted that Penang stands as a shining example of cultural diversity and inclusivity, where various ethnicities, traditions, and beliefs peacefully coexist.
“It is said that ‘out of diversity comes strength’, and the Technicolour Multicultural Festival 2024 beautifully showcases this harmonious blend by highlighting the beauty of our diverse cultures through technology and arts.
“Moreover, it underscores the essence of charity and empathy that binds us together,” he remarked.
