THE Butterworth Buddhist Association today donated some 30 tablets to six schools in the state to assist the needy students with limited access to digital devices to boost their education.
State Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, who was present during the handover ceremony, extended his heartfelt appreciation to the association for their kind gesture.
“The Covid-19 pandemic should not be an excuse to let anyone skip or stay away from education.
“This is a fantastic effort by the association, and on behalf of the state government, I congratulate them and hope they will keep up the good work,” he said during the handover ceremony at the Butterworth Buddhist Association in Butterworth today.
The six schools that received the tablets were SRJK(C) Chung Hwa Pusat Butterworth, SJK(C) Chung Hwa 2, SJK(C) Mak Mandin Butterworth, SJK(C) Kwang Hwa, SJK(C) Li Hwa and SJK(C) Chung Hwa Cawangan 1.
Phee added that the state government was looking to rev up internet connectivity in the state to ensure that everyone, especially students, get their fair share of stable connection when involved in education-related activities.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and in an effort to avoid further spread of the infections, only the representatives of each school were present to receive the devices.
The association’s president Phee Boon Chong said the schools would now identify students from the B40 group to give out the tables to.
“We are in the midst of planning for more donations in the future to ensure students are given due priority when it comes to education,” he said.
