HOLDING a copy of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) with an article under the heading “Malaysia Fund Scandal Spreads”, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng spoke on the issue highlighted by WSJ.
In the said article, it was reported that “Abu Dhabi has long been a source of support for the fund, 1Malaysia Development Bhd., which was set up six years ago by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to develop new industries in the Southeast Asian country. Now, as 1MDB tries to fend off a cash crunch, its backers in Abu Dhabi are asking what happened to a $1.4 billion payment the fund said it made but which they never received, two people familiar with the matter said.”
Lim brought up the issue at a press conference in Komtar on Sept … when he asked why Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan called for Tony Pua’s dismissal as reported by the NST when there is no proof.
Pua sits in the the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
According to Lim, former PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed had said that it is baseless to accuse PAC of leaking information about 1MDB to WSJ.
“We want to know what happened to the US$1.4 billion as reported by WSJ and also the 1MDB scandal of RM2.6b. Why didn’t the Prime Minister sue WSJ? Don’t try to divert attention from these by making false allegations against Tony. Tony Pua’s position in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will be defended,” Lim said.
“It is unethical, immoral and un-parliamentary to call for the sacking of Tony without any proof. This is based on bad faith,” he added.
