THREE specially decorated Segway electric scooters will be one of the main highlights for the upcoming annual ‘Penang Chingay, Lion & Dragon Dance Parade’ on Dec 15.
Penang Segway Tours Sdn Bhd business director Ken Ong said the electric scooter would be an additional feature in the parade from Padang Brown to Esplanade from 7pm to 11pm.
He said three e-scooters would be leading the troupes, followed by LinkBike bicycles and trishaws
“We would like to try something new this year and the upcoming event will be a platform for electric scooters to be showcased to the people.
“In fact, it is user-friendly, convenient and easy to use it. I am happy to note that the state is supportive of this,” he said.
Segway is a two-wheeled, self-balanced transportation machine invented by Segway Incorporation. It is popular in European countries.
State Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin lauded such initiative.
“We are planning to bring it to Penang, which can be a new way for tourists to have fun exploring the beauty of heritage site.
“We hope this feature will be available here soon,” he said.
Yeoh also took the opportunity to try out the e-scooter after the press conference in Komtar today.
The parade from Padang Brown to Esplanade will pass through Datuk Keramat Road, Penang Road, Chulia Street, Transfer Road and end at the Esplanade.
