DEEPAVALI joy arrived early for 400 underprivileged families in the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency as they received essential care packages and other goodies yesterday (Nov 5), ahead of the coming festive season on Nov 12.
The needy families hail from Paya Terubong, Air Itam, and Seri Delima state constituencies.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, who was present to distribute the necessities, lauded the effort to reduce the burdens of those in need.
“We are committed to expressing our care and love for them through this initiative, regardless of race and religion.
“The packets include noodles, rice, muruku, sugar, condensed milk, and tea. This assistance will provide much-needed relief to the recipients.
“This is a gesture of kindness from us to show our appreciation to them, especially in light of the upcoming festive season,” he said in his speech before giving out the necessities to the recipients at Taman Terubong Jaya yesterday.
Paya Terubong assemblyman Wong Hon Wai expressed his hope that this early gesture of goodwill for the constituents would offer them some respite.
“In fact, our state’s tourism industry is on the rise after two years of the Covid-19 pandemic. The industry has a great prospect for further growth,” Wong, who is also state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman, said.
Among those present were Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan, and Ramkarpal’s mother Datin Seri Utama Gurmit Kaur.
