A GLOBAL supplier of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and a subsidiary of Global Brands Manufacture under the PSA Group, ELNA PCB (M) Sdn Bhd has officially expanded its operation in Penang with its second facility located in the Perai Industrial Zone.
The first plant of ELNA PCB is located adjacent to ELNA’s new five-story manufacturing facility.
ELNA PCB president lan Yang said the second state-of-the-art plant represents an investment exceeding RM1 billion.
“The first production phase will yield 300,000sq ft of PCBs, catering to the automotive, server, network equipment, personal computing, and consumer electronics sectors.
“As the demand for high-quality and advanced PCBs increases, the plant’s full production capacity is expected to reach 1 million sq ft in the future.
“The existing facility will continue to manufacture double-sided and multi-layer PCBs, while the new plant will add advanced production capabilities to meet customers’ needs for diversified geographical manufacturing and supply chain flexibility,” Yang said in his speech before Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the grand opening ceremony of the new manufacturing facility today.
Also present were State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang, InvestPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian, Penang Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) director Muhammad Ghaddaffi Sardar Mohamed, PSA Group chairman Anthony Chiao, PSA PCB Business Group president Lance Tao and Penang Standing Committee of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Malaysia president Hsu Shang Chih.
Tao said it is an honour for the company to establish a new plant in Penang.
He mentioned the inauguration of the new ELNA plant is a significant milestone for the PCB division, adding that PSA is committed to providing one-stop industry-leading solutions for customers worldwide, promising to deliver more diverse and high-quality products and services.
“As the world’s sixth-largest semiconductor exporter, Malaysia accounts for 13% of the global assembly, testing and packaging market.
“Meanwhile, Penang, in particular, stands as a major hub for Malaysia’s semiconductor industry, boasting a well-established industrial ecosystem, a rich talent pool, and a favourable business environment.
“Thus, ELNA’s decision to build a new PCB plant in Penang is a strategic move that is expected to enhance the region’s electronics manufacturing supply chain,” he said.
Chow said Penang is pleased to be the preferred location for ELNA’s new manufacturing facility.
“Today’s ceremony marks the realisation of ELNA’s investment in Penang since the groundbreaking ceremony in February last year.
“The completion of ELNA’s new plant marks a significant milestone for ELNA and Penang, as we continue to strengthen our position as a global leader in the electronic manufacturing sector.
“The construction of this second PCB plant in Penang will not only expand production capacity but also transfer advanced manufacturing technology, foster local expertise in cutting-edge PCB technology, and create over 1,000 additional jobs,” said Chow.
He added, with a presence of 30 years in Penang, ELNA’s expansion decision has greatly attested Penang as a sustainable location for investment.
Chow noted that this expansion underlines the robust industrial ecosystem in Penang, offering opportunities for multinational companies to continue expanding here.
He also commended ELNA’s reinvestment, highlighting it as a testament to Penang’s enduring appeal as a premier investment destination in Malaysia.
“I look forward to further collaboration between our international partners and local industry players, as we work together to strengthen the industry ecosystem in Penang.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to Mida and InvestPenang for their collaborative efforts in engaging investors and facilitating the seamless implementation of projects.
“Finally, I wish ELNA continued success and growth in its operations. May this new chapter bring prosperity to both ELNA and Penang,” Chow concluded.
