PEACE is integral to the growth of tourism and the creative economy, fostering stability, innovation, and collaboration essential for sustainable development.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai emphasised this during his speech at the Service Civil International (SCI) Peace Conference held at Berjaya Hotel today.
Wong said that peaceful countries enjoy a better quality of life, equitable growth, and the confidence to pursue global partnerships.
“Tourists from all over the world come to Penang to experience our cultural diversity, culinary delights and natural beauty.
“Artists and innovators draw inspiration from Penang’s harmonious environment, enriching its vibrant creative landscape. It is this peace that makes Penang a beloved destination and a vital economic hub,” Wong added.
SCI Penang president Athimulam Arjunan said that delegates and observers from more than 40 countries, including Malaysia, are participating in the event.
“This conference is more than just a gathering; it is a celebration of our shared vision to create a more inclusive and harmonious world.
“It serves as a call to action for every individual here to promote unity, respect diversity, and address the global challenges that connect us all,” Athimulam said.
The event highlights include the ‘International Peace Seminar’, the celebration of International ‘Volunteer Day’, the dissemination of SCI’s peace message, and the recognition of individuals and organisations for their outstanding contributions to peace initiatives.
The SCI Peace Conference, which began on Dec 5, will be held until Dec 8.
