IN response to the underwater pipeline burst in Sungai Perai today, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced the deployment of water tankers to the affected areas, namely the southwest district and a section of the southern part of the Bukit Dumbar neighbourhood.
He stated that further updates on the situation would be provided after a thorough assessment.
“The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has mobilised divers to investigate the actual cause of the leakage, and if possible, we will attempt to fix it.
“The severity of the current situation surpasses that of the previous leakage. However, a comprehensive on-site assessment is crucial to acquire more detailed information,” Chow explained during a press conference held after the ‘Topping-Out for Penang Waterfront Convention Centre’ ceremony today.
He also mentioned that the alternative pipe would only be ready in early February.
Meanwhile, PBAPP, via its official Facebook page, reported a sudden major leak in the 1,350mm underwater pipeline section and assured the activation of the emergency response plan with updates to follow.
