TO meet the evolving demands of doing business, organisations worldwide today are leveraging technology more than ever.
The workplace has become a digital one in a lot of countries across the globe.
The human resource digital revolution is fast progressing from everyday work processes to recruitment, onboarding, and talent retention.
There is a desired need to ensure digital transformation plays an integral role in the human resources space here in Malaysia.
Given this, InvestPenang, Global Talent Alliance (GTA), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) have co-organised the Digital HR Symposium Penang 2023: Empowering HR Leaders in the Digital Age.
The theme was ‘Transformation Through Digital Optimisation of Human Capital Space’.
Aimed to empower chief human resource officers (CHROs) and top human resource leaders from Penang and other states from the northern region, the session brought together 150 industry leaders from different types of backgrounds and companies.
Started at 9am today, it will end at 5pm later.
It is learnt that the session will also enable the industry leaders to harness the power of technology in managing human capital, leveraging digital tools, optimising human resources processes and driving transformative change within organisations.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in his opening remarks earlier, said the symposium would serve as a catalyst for innovations and improvements in the Silicon Valley of the East.
“The convergence of technologies is predicted to lead to the transformation of the industry in the next decades.
“As we have all witnessed, digitalisation has been accelerated globally, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. In Malaysia, the digital economy is also poised to hit its goal of contributing 25.5% to the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025.
“Living in an era where technology continuously reshapes our daily lives, it is only natural for technology to exert a profound influence on how we manage our assets, which is human capital.
“The advent of the digital revolution presents organisations with tremendous opportunities to optimise their human resource practices, unlock the untapped potential, and pave the way for unprecedented growth and success.
“Nevertheless, the realisation of these prospects lies on the human resource leaders who are steering the organisation along the digital transformation journey,” Chow said in his speech before launching the Digital HR Symposium Penang 2023 programme at Eastin Hotel in Bayan Lepas today.
Relatively, he said that Penang’s proposition in the global value chain is no longer restricted to back-end activities, but it is becoming an emerging hub for Integrated Circuit (IC) design, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and research and development (R&D) activities, among others.
Meanwhile, MDEC Digital Investment senior vice-president Raymond Siva told a press conference earlier that at least 80% of public service delivery by government agencies would be moved to cloud services by 2025.
“This shows the focus of the government to ensure its agencies adopt digitalisation when serving the public,” Siva said.
Separately, during the event, Chow also announced that Digicity Sdn Bhd would be offering scholarships worth up to RM100,000 for interested companies to hire fresh graduates and train them in the field of machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and data science for four months.
Also present during the event were state Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, Chief Minister’s special investment advisor Datuk Seri Lee Kah Choon, InvestPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian and Leaderonomics Group founder Roshan Thiran.
