THE unveiling of the ‘Skim Keselamatan Sosial Suri Rumah’ (SKSSR), a social security scheme specifically designed for single mothers, recently has garnered significant attention and commendation.

Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying, who also serves as the Deputy Finance Minister, recently announced the implementation of the scheme for single mothers, whether full-time or part-time homemakers, in the Tanjong parliamentary constituency.

Lim shared this when distributing flowers to mothers at Chowrasta Market on Mother’s Day, May 12.

Tanjong parliamentary constituency encompasses the three state constituencies of Komtar, Pengkalan Kota, and Padang Kota.

Lim said the participants of the scheme, which has received support from the Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, will receive SKSSR contribution cards, each valued at RM120 for a year’s insurance coverage.

It is learned that the distribution of the SKSSR cards would be facilitated through the service centres in Komtar, Pengkalan Kota, and Padang Kota.

According to Lim, once the respective service centres have identified a total of 150 eligible single mothers, their information will be sent to the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) for verification purposes.

Responding to this initiative, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng shared that under his constituency, approximately 20 single mothers have registered so far.

“We use the Penang Single Mothers database to contact and identify suitable candidates, and we will also be meeting with our MPKKs to identify and recommend single mothers in need within the constituency.

“Eligible single mothers in the Komtar constituency are encouraged to contact my service centre for more information.

“Please reach out to my staff member Kenny at 016-270 6808,” Teh said when contacted by Buletin Mutiara yesterday.

Pengkalan Kota state assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng said that single mothers include those from B40 families, particularly those with many children and those whose children are still attending school.

“These single mothers are our priority for screening and confirmation.

“We will forward the relevant information to the Tanjong parliamentary constituency’s service centre for further processing, ensuring that single mothers can benefit from the programme,” Yuee Harng added.

Lebuh Chulia Village Community Management Council (MPKK) secretary Wong Chiew Lee extended her appreciation for the initiative and hoped that the SKSSR would help ease the burden of single mothers.

“I would also like to thank the state government for their continuous support,” Chiew Lee said.

A detailed explanation of the benefits of the cards can be obtained at the ‘Dewan Pusat Penang2030 KADUN Komtar’ on May 25.
