Empowering women at WE R.O.CK Day 2023

ASPIRING women seeking to venture into women-owned businesses can look forward to a two-day event called WE R.O.CK Day 2023 in Gurney Paragon Mall on Sept 30 and Oct 1.

The WomenBizSENSE and JCI Pearl are both collaborating to host the event to celebrate women’s entrepreneurship.

State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim said the event, which will run from 10am to 10pm, would feature 40 booths.

“The booths will showcase products and services from local businesses, including food and beverage, health and wellness, beauty, fashion, home decor, business services and others.

“Attendees can also participate in business-sharing sessions through talks and panel sessions, sample products, receive goodie bags, and take advantage of special discounts on great products.

“WE R.O.CK stands for Women Entrepreneur Resources, Opportunities, Connections, and Knowledge. This is an event that will provide women in businesses and aspiring ones with a chance to succeed.

“The state is also sponsoring RM8,000 in support of WE R.O.CK Day 2023,” she said at a press conference in Komtar today.

Lim said she believed the event would be able to showcase the power and potential of women entrepreneurs, who play a significant role in shaping the state’s business landscape.

“We have paved the way by establishing many community-based initiatives to empower women with business skills such as the Penang Women Entrepreneur Mentoring Programme and Wanita Jana Rezeki.

“When women succeed in business, they create a virtuous cycle of economic empowerment that uplifts entire communities,” she added.

Lim also said the rise of women entrepreneurs was a step towards achieving an equitable, prosperous, and inclusive world.

Penang Women Development Corporation (PWDC) chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng emphasised the need to support women.

“We need to create more opportunities for women to thrive,” she said.

JCI Pearl president Amanda Cheah said that she looks forward to the two-day event.

“Our partnership with the WomenBizSENSE has been instrumental in making the project a reality,” she added.

Lucky draws are also awaiting the attendees of the event. Admission to the event is free.
