THE Program Tunas Niaga (PROTUNe) is like an awareness programme for the community, especially the younger generation, in moulding entrepreneurship as a career.
“It must be a joint effort from the schools, parents, the education ministry and also state and government agencies in encouraging entrepreneurship among the younger generation,” Penang Development Corporation’s (PDC) deputy general manager (entrepreneur division) Amran Hashim said in his speech at the 18th PROTUNe Convention at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) on Oct 13.
“This state-level programme organised by PDC is a tool to encourage and nurture secondary school children to become entrepreneurs.
“In line with this, some 70 teachers and more than 900 school children from 34 secondary schools in the state have been involved in the programme since January,” he added.
Also present were state education department building and human resource head, Izmi Ismail, and USM entrepreneurship programme chairman, Mohd Shafie Ariffin.
The convention saw SMK Bukit Mertajam bagging the best company award prize with St George’s Girls School in second place and SMK Bakti from Tasik Gelugor in third.
The champion team won RM1,000.
Awards were also presented to 12 other categories, among others the Best Yearly Award, Best Financial Award, Best Product Award, Best Services Award, Best Chairman Award, Best Prinicipal Award and Best Potential Company Award.
The PROTUNe programme has been conducted by PDC since 1998.
