THE Indian community, along with Indian-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Penang, are invited to participate in an upcoming engagement session attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this weekend.

The special engagement session for the Indian community will be held at the SP Arena in Seberang Jaya on July 16 (Sunday) at 5pm.

Caretaker Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy emphasised the importance of the Indian community’s presence as the programme is specifically organised for them.

“Through this platform, they can voice out any suggestions or issues they may have to the prime minister for the betterment of the Indian community in the state.

“We have already sent out invitations to various Indian-based NGOs and also distribute some flyers to the Indian community to come and support the programme.

“Among the main issues that are expected to be addressed by the prime minister concern Tamil school, socio-economy of Indian community involving affordable housing, job opportunities in public sector, education, non-Islamic houses of worship (RIBI) fund and others.

“Caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow also is expected to attend the engagement session,” Ramasamy told a press conference at his Prai service centre today.

Also present were former Batu Uban assemblyman A. Kumaresan, former Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillor David Marshel.
