PUPILS of SJKC True Light can now seek shelter from the rain and shine, thanks to the newly-built awning which was installed below the pedestrian bridge connecting the primary school in Perkampungan Juru here.
Before the installation of the canopy, the pupils risked getting wet during rain, making their learning experience uncomfortable.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said a school is often considered a second home for students.
“Therefore, well-equipped facilities and a conducive learning environment are crucial factors that influence students’ education and growth.
“Although education falls under the Federal Government’s jurisdiction, the Penang government has consistently prioritised the development of education within the state.
“Within our capabilities, we strive to enhance the environment and facilities of all vernacular schools to ensure that students receive a quality education,” Chow, who is also the Batu Kawan MP, said in his speech before opening the facility today.
He allocated RM 221,400 for the improvement of the school’s facilities through the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency fund.
Besides the installation of the awning, the fund was also used to set up a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Laboratory, and to support the students’ mural art programme. The mural painting was done on the school’s exterior wall.
The school also set up three reading corners to foster a reading culture among the pupils.
Chow said the equipment and books have been donated by parents and alumni, promoting book exchanges and encouraging good reading habits among pupils.
“The state government is pleased to witness the continuous improvements in schools across the state, aligning with the progress of the times.
“I hope that the schools will continue to progress, host more programmes that benefit students, and work together with the Penang government to achieve the state’s vision,” he said.
Penang Education Department deputy director Abdul Said Hussain commended Chow for his commitment and character as an individual and as the Penang Chief Minister.
“Despite his busy schedule, he continues to find time to engage with the public and attend community events,” he said in his speech.
Abdul Said also stressed the importance of nurturing and enhancing the Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ), and Spiritual Quotient (SQ).
“We must strive to move foreward. Leave all the negativities behind and focus on your education,” he said.
Also present were Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillor Rachel Teh, and other representatives from the Penang Education Department and SJKC True Light.
