HUNDREDS of entrepreneurs in Penang thronged the AC Hotel in Bukit Jambul on Feb 23 to participate in a day-long event, called the Penang Entrepreneurship Carnival 2023, courtesy of a collaboration between the Penang government and the Penang Development Corporation (PDC).
State Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain officiated the carnival.
In his speech, Abdul Halim said the objective of the carnival was to help foster a healthy relationship between entrepreneurs and Federal, state and local agencies in the state.
“Agencies have to go to the ground to feel what it is like being an entrepreneur.
“Don’t just sit behind and dictate everything.
“We are moving fast in this advanced era where technology is widespread everywhere, almost applicable to anything and everything we do in our lives.
“Agencies equally have an important role to play to assist entrepreneurs to climb the ladder of success.
“The way many businesses are being operated today is no longer the same as yesteryears.
“We have to brace ourselves for more future shock phenomenon, just like how when Covid-19 struck us all and completely changed the landscape of business operations across the many different industries,” Abdul Halim said in his speech during the launching of the carnival.
The carnival, which will ended at 5pm, had some key industry players, namely Digital Penang, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Maxis and others, showcasing their businesses at their respective booths.
In a related development, Abdul Halim also said by 2030, the state’s mission is to ensure each household has at least one individual who is an entrepreneur.
“It is not easy becoming one, but not impossible. To become one, several key traits must be practised, such as being disciplined, result-driven, able to take risks, knowledgeable and others,” Abdul Halim added.
Also present during the launching ceremony was PDC chief executive officer Datuk Aziz Bakar.
