BADMINTON enthusiasts are welcome to join the upcoming special tournament in October this year.

 

The badminton tournament, known as the ‘Piala Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang 2024,’ is organised by the Batu Kawan parliamentary and Padang Kota state constituency service centres, in collaboration with Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) and Penang Forward Sports Club.

Chief Minister political secretary Lau Keng Ee announced that the tournament has entered its second edition this year after its successful debut last year.

He said the objective of the tournament is to spur interest and unearth new talent in badminton among the local community in Penang.

 

“Matches of the Piala Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang 2024 will begin simultaneously in two different locations, on the island and mainland, on Oct 12 and 13.

 

“On the island, the place will be at the Chinese Recreation Club, Jalan Padang Victoria in Padang Kota.

 

“Meanwhile on the mainland, the location will be at the JesselBall Pearl City Sports Centre, Bandar Tasek Mutiara in Batu Kawan.

 

“Meanwhile, the final matches will be on Oct 20, at Chinese Recreation Club Penang. The gala dinner and prize-giving ceremony will be held on the same date (Oct 20) at the Lee Sih Chong Soo building on Burma Road at 7pm.

“Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is expected to attend the gala dinner and prize-giving ceremony,” Lau told a press conference in Komtar today.

 

Also present were Batu Kawan parliamentary and Padang Kota state constituency service centres director Ewe Chee Way and Penang Forward Sports Club chairman Lim Choo Hooi.

 

The badminton tournament follows a team format and is open to participants aged 18 and above.

 

The tournament will feature men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles categories. Participants also must be residing in Penang to be eligible to participate in the tournament.

 

The registration fee for the tournament is RM2,000 per team with a maximum of 10 participants, including the team manager. Each participant in the group will receive a jersey, a ticket for the gala dinner, and goodie bags, and will also be eligible to participate in a lucky draw event during the dinner, with exciting prizes, including five motorcycles.

 

Registration fees can be made to the Penang Forward Sports Club account (Public Bank Berhad) with the account number 4-1235849-28.

 

Registration is open from today until Sept 7. Registration forms can be downloaded from the QR code below.
