IT is never too early to instil environmental awareness in children.
And for that, Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) and Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd jointly organised a programme, called ‘Roadshow Kempen Kitar Semula’ for hundreds of preschoolers.
Nine preschools took part in the roadshow programme at SJK(C) Kwang Hwa, Raja Uda, Butterworth on March 2.
They were Tan Educations, Tabika Perpaduan Taman Bagan, Tadika Pintar Minda, Tadika Chin Jen, Tadika Kaliber Murni, Tadika Holistik Gemilang, Tadika Holistik Pintar Sg Muda, Tadika Cahaya Permata Ibu and Tadika Invosi from Seberang Perai.
“The purpose of this programme is to encourage preschoolers to learn about recycling habits amongst them. This is an effort to guide the young generation to love the environment in their daily lives.
“This is the third time we are hosting the programme in collaboration with MPSP,” said F&N Bhd corporate affairs manager Cariessa Goh Geak Hwa in her speech during the roadshow.
She emphasised that the roadshow would remind children on the 8Rs concept (Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Re-use, Repair, Regift, Recover and Recycle) concept so they know the right way of dumping and recognising recyclable materials no matter where they are.
State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, who graced the event, said the roadshow would enhance awareness and understanding of children on the practising of 8Rs in everyday life, while participating in a cheerful and entertaining activities during the roadshow.
He urged teachers and parents to ensure that preschoolers gain basic knowledge on environmental conservation and preservation issues.
Preschool teachers should also include lessons on the environment through their studies and activities, such as helping them understand how a small-scale action like recycling could make a difference in the world.
Interesting activities such as storytelling and games held during the roadshow was to sharpen the children’s memory skills.
During the activity, preschoolers had the opportunity to express themselves through games using the techniques learned.
