TRADERS and hawkers can now register to take up booths during the Jade Emperor God birthday celebration.
Registration is now open until Jan 31.
Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Wong Yuee Harng said the celebration coordinator TLM Event Sdn Bhd was inviting traders to join in the celebration which would be held in the evening on Jan 31.
“There are 20 to 30 stalls available. Those interested can apply to TLM Event Sdn Bhd. Registration fee is RM50,” Wong told a press conference at Chew Jetty on Jan 22.
Also present were TLM Event Sdn Bhd executive director CK Ewe, event coordinator Lim Hao Weim, event executive Aaron Teoh and public relations executive Ng Kim Theng.
Public can look forward to traditional pastries, handicraft and hawker food during the celebration.
Wong urged food handlers to get themselves properly vaccinated.
“Applicants must meet this condition. However, traders who will be selling non-food items such as handicraft and clothes are exempted,” he said.
He added that the ‘Tiangong Festival’ (God of Heaven Festival) would be held from 8pm on Feb 11 to 1.30am the next day.
“Several roads in Weld Quay, up to Chulia Street Ghaut and Gat Lebuh Melayu will be affected. Some roads will be partially closed,” he said.
For registration, call 012-4218365 (Ng Kim Theng) or 017-4114217 (Aaron Teoh).
Wong also urged the public not to distribute red packets to the council workers and cleaners.
“They should not ask for red packets from the public.
“The public can report to the MBPP at 04-2633000 if they found any MBPP worker or cleaner going around collecting red packets.
“We will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against the employee if the allegation is true,” he said.
