AN event company has come forward to help the St Nicholas’ Home to ease its financial burden.
MG Group director Marcus Lim said the company approached Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim to seek her advice on the charity home that needed financial aid.
“We used to donate to orphanages and old folks homes so when YB Lim suggested St Nicholas’ Home, we were very happy to help another group of needy community,” he said after presenting RM2,000 to the home in Jalan Bagan Jermal today.
St Nicholas’ Home is a non-profit charity organisation, which is aimed at responding to the needs of the blind and visually impaired community in Malaysia.
Siew Khim said she was happy to see the youths give back to the society.
“We hope more people can come forward and help the needy. It does not matter if the amount is small. I am sure any help is very much appreciated,” she said.
Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee thanked MG Group and Siew Khim for helping St Nicholas’ Home.
“I’m happy to see young entrepreneurs trying their best to help the less fortunate, especially during this challenging period.
“We hope to see more young people contribute back to the society and help the needy community,” Lee said.
St Nicholas’ Home general manager David Chiang said the home needed about RM160,000 a month to operate smoothly.
“We try our best to reduce our expenses. We foresee that this year will still be a challenging year for most businesses due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“In the past, we relied heavily on walk-in contributors. We have just launched our new website in December last year to make it easier for people who want to donate.
“We felt very encouraged by the help from this young group of people who are concerned for the disabled community,” he said.
