IN the journey of a man who has persevered through life’s ups and downs, climbing the ladder of his career, it is only fitting that he now turns his focus toward making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu is a man of action, and he is determined to bring about change in the lives of students in Penang’s Tamil schools, particularly in matters related to their education.
Sundarajoo, who holds the Housing and Environment portfolio, also serves as the chairman of the Penang Tamil Schools Special Committee.
During a special gathering with representatives from all 28 Tamil schools in the state, he unveiled four key initiatives that he plans to actualise with the support of his team of professionals on the committee, all aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for the students.
These four ideas encompass the provision of professional trainers to educate parents on essential parenting skills, with a specific focus on dedicating more quality time to their children at home.
Additionally, Sundarajoo intends to procure revision books for students to utilise during school holidays, collaborate with the Tara Foundation to uplift the lives of underprivileged students and establish a dedicated foundation to support students in their pursuit of higher education.
“By joining forces, we can transform these ideas into tangible realities. I place my trust in each of you to work hand in hand with me to ensure the success of these initiatives,” he underscored.
“We are living in an era where parents are often preoccupied with earning a living for their families, potentially leading to the neglect of their core responsibilities at home. By providing parents with the right training, we can address this issue effectively.
“As for the foundation, I envision it as a crucial platform that will support underprivileged and academically talented students in their quest for education. This fund will be exclusively dedicated to higher education purposes,” Sundarajoo elaborated during his address.
The meeting drew participation from over a hundred representatives earlier this morning, underlining the importance and urgency of these initiatives.
Senator Dr R.A. Lingeshwaran, a member of the Penang Tamil Schools Special Committee, was also in attendance.
