Expert to talk on ‘Understanding & Managing Parkinson’s Disease’

One of the many health talks organised by Kiwanis Club of Penang Central.

KIWANIS Club of Penang Central (KCPC) is set to hold an insightful talk on ‘Understanding & Managing Parkinson’s Disease’ at Tech Dome Penang on Nov 25 (Saturday) from 3pm to 4.30pm.

Dr Alan Ch’ng, a consultant geriatrician, will lead the talk with the aim of demystifying Parkinson’s disease and shedding light on other conditions that may exhibit similar features.

Organising chairperson Evelyn Chuah said the talk intends to guide individuals on effectively managing the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

“Parkinson’s can become debilitating, and related conditions can impact both the quality and length of life.

“Many individuals suffering from Parkinson’s are unsure how to manage it, and caregivers are often stressed while caring for those affected. Therefore, this talk is designed to provide invaluable insights for both patients and caregivers, fostering a better understanding of the disease. Even for those not currently affected, early diagnosis of the symptoms can be crucial,” Evelyn explained.

KCPC has a history of collaboration with D’Home, I-Life and numerous mental health professionals, engaging in the provision of talks, seminars, workshops and webinars. It also reached out to those mentally affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

KCPC’s projects consistently received endorsement and support from the state government and the state Education Department. These initiatives attract different audiences, including teachers, parents, youth, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and others interested in the welfare of the community.
