AS many as 120 participants took part in a programme to hike up ZiZai Hill on Sept 27 which was organised by the Office of Tanjong Bunga assemblymember Teh Yee Cheu and the Taman Seri Setia village development and safety committee (JKKK).
Teh, who was at the event together with Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, led the first group of hikers up the hill which stands at 1,630 ft while the latter flagged off the remaining hikers at around 9.00am.
Zairil, in his interview with members of the media, wished to draw the public’s attention to ZiZai Hill which is one of the many hills in Penang most suited for outdoor enthusiasts.
“I’m very happy to support this event as it promotes our local hills because when one thinks of hiking in Penang, only Penang Hill comes to mind but there are in fact so many hills around Penang and ZiZai Hill is one of them. We also need to lead a healthy lifestyle and appreciate our natural surroundings,” Zairil said.
Also present were JKKK Taman Seri Setia chairman Koay Seng Lye and his secretary Lee Wei Seang.
Teh, who managed to speak to the press after completing the hike, spoke at great length on plans to refurbish a dilapidated bungalow on the hill for recreational purposes and to facilitate hikers up the hill to have a place to rest and perhaps even to spend the night.
“There are 4 rooms and a dining room in this dilapidated bungalow which we are now in the process of repairing using the resources of JKKK Taman Seri Setia. We will install solar lights and the people can use it for camping or bungalow stay,” Teh said.
“Once the bungalow is ready as planned, we intend to hold some sort of a house-warming party in it on Christmas eve to officiate its opening,” Teh quipped.
