Extra waste collection rounds during Chinese New Year

 

 

THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will increase its waste collection schedule in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations.

 

MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang announced yesterday that domestic waste from multi-lift would be carried out twice per day from Feb 1 till Feb 4. The collection schedule will be as below:

 

. First collection:  4am to 10am

. Second collection: 12pm to 4pm

. 18 locations of multi-lift at markets and food complexes.

 

1.Domestic waste – landed properties:

Collection of waste will be carried out following normal schedule of (3 times per week) till Chinese New Year.

 

2.Additional multi-lift (ML) containers at public markets:

To ease the disposal of old furniture, mattresses, pillows and others, MBPP will increase the number of ML containers at various public markets which have become the hot spots of waste disposal during Chinese New Year celebrations from Feb 1.

 

Among the public markets are:

a). Pulau Tikus Market – existing ML container – 1. additional ML container – 1.

 

b). Taimina Sungai Ara – additional ML container – 1.

 

c). Lebuh Campbell – existing ML container – 1, additional  ML container – 1.

 

3. Lump Waste:

 

. MBPP will have additional collection for lump waste from Jan 28 till Feb 4. This service is an extra collection to the existing one. The public is advised to put the lump waste in proper container in front of their premise.

 

. Collection of lump waste exceeding normal capacity.

In case of disposal of lump waste exceeding normal capacity, kindly cooperate by contacting MBPP to seek special service. Contact: 04-2823979 (office hours).

 

Meanwhile, on a related matter, Yew said MBPP is very strict on any staff or contractor receiving any ang pow when carrying out waste disposal service.

 

“Cooperation is needed from residents. They are not to give any contribution to any parties. If there is evidence of this wrongdoing, kindly contact MBPP hotline at 04-2637637 (24 hours) or MBPP Services Department at 04-2633000 (office hours),” he stressed.
