FEDERAL Oats Mills, the first ever oat mill to be established in Southeast Asia in 1965, launched its new cutting-edge oat processing plant, spanning a total floor area of 260,000 sqft in Simpang Ampat on Sept 21.

They are now the 13th largest exporter of oat products worldwide!

The cornerstone of FOM’s recent success lies in its strategic investments in advanced technology. Its new plant, representing an investment of RM135 million, specialises in producing a diverse range of oat products, such as oat flakes, klined dried hulled oats, oat bran and oat flour.

It is learnt that FOM operates at a milling capacity of 10 metric tons per hour and an estimated 60,000 metric tons per year.

Representing Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, state Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye said FOM’s expansion is a testament to Penang’s sustainable investment location.

“Penang’s conducive environment not only allows industry players to participate and thrive, but also bears witness to sincere commitments towards the state’s well-being.

“I am optimistic of the FOM facility’s capabilities to achieve greater heights in the years to come.

“Apart from this, I was also made to understand that this new facility is expected to create hundreds of job opportunities, from skilled technicians operating the machinery to administrative staff managing operations, logistics personnel and skilled professionals,” H’ng said in his speech during the opening ceremony of the new facility in Simpang Ampat on Sept 21.

Meanwhile, FOM deputy managing director Michael Chew Kian Hong said that FOM’s commitment remains the same, which is to reinforce its capacity and product line strength, providing substantial room for growth and expansion to meet the needs of the market.

From its inception, FOM haspp demonstrated a commitment to excellence, quickly gaining recognition for its dedication to quality and innovation.

In 1970, shortly after its establishment, FOM introduced the iconic Captain brand, which rapidly gained traction in the Middle East, as well as the Southeast Asia market.

This pivotal success paved the way for FOM to gradually expand its global export footprint, making Captain Oats a household name in over 30 countries across the globe.

The company currently exports oats to countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Bahrain, Philippines, Bangladesh and others.

Also present during the event were Penang Chief Minister’s special investment adviser Datuk Seri Lee Kah Choon, FOM managing director Chew Soo Eng and InvestPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian.
